Baby Fotograf Schweiz | Aline

It was a busy day two weeks ago when I got a phone call and didn’t have time to pick up the phone immediately. Later checking my voice mail I heard a familiar voice. It was Franziska.

Franziska is the mother of Lea, the baby I photographed in early 2009. And as I guessed now, she wanted to ask me if I would like to photograph the newest family member, Aline. Of course I was very happy and curious to meet Aline! It’s always a wonderful thing if you don’t meet a family only once, but have the chance to accompany them for a longer time. No matter if it’s for a wedding or for family pictures.

Aline has now about the same age than Lea had when I photographed her. Though she’s a lot calmer than her sister. But that’s OK for the photographer as it makes focusing a bit easier ;-) Aline did great and had a lot of power before she finally got tired. We spent a wonderful morning together.

Jannis (Baby Session)

It was a very hot day today. Maybe the hottest day of the year so far. After a little Odyssey because of road works everywhere I finally arrived at the house of Jannis’ parents. It was a tiring baby session. I was sweating not only because of the heat, but also because Jannis was not too much convinced about the idea of a photo session. But he didn’t know what he wanted anyway. Eating? Sleeping? Or no, sorry, changed my mind again! But I guess that’s OK if you’re just 6 weeks old. As I am already grown out of his age, I still have the same problem sometimes :-)

After a (long) while of sweating Jannis finally gave up and went to sleep. Now it was getting at least a little bit easier for the photographer and I was able to capture my favorite image of the day.

Andrin (Baby Session)

Just a quick post of yesterday’s baby session with lovely Andrin. Being 4 weeks old he was hungry during the whole shoot and after a while of eating and modeling for the photographer he went into sleep mode :-) Thanks for sharing some time with me, Andrin. Welcome to the world!

Nicola Tristan (Baby)

Today I’d like to introduce Nicola Tristan to you! He was born just before Christmas and is the younger brother of Fiorello, I photographed about one year ago (see this blog post). It was a special pleasure for me to meet the parents again and especially Fiorello who has grown a lot in the meantime. I’m very thankful for their trust to call me again to also photograph their youngest son. It’s a sad story that shortly after the baby session with Fiorello last year it was found that he suffers from a serious disease. I was thinking a lot about this since his mum told me back then. I was really amazed to see now how everything has grown, their family, their love and Fiorello. I wish them all the strengh they need in difficult times, and a lot of love and wonderful moments with their family.

Wow, that was an amazing afternoon I spent photographing 6 month old Elin! I couldn’t believe how much energy she had. I was really exhausted after 2 hours of rolling around on the floor and taking photographs. She was moving a lot and changing her face’s expression so fast that I even had to set my camera on ‘continuous mode’ shooting. And as it can happen sometimes after an exhausting shooting I was waking up with aching muscles the next day :-)

Camilla (Baby Session, Brooklyn NY)

When I visited New York City last month it was a pleasure to meet some new and old friends. Thanks to Twitter and Facebook I knew that Beth Jennings, a photographer friend from Australia, was at the same time in the city. Cool, what a great opportunity to finally meet her in real life after connecting by comments on my blog! Thanks Beth, to join the ride to Staten Island! It was fun!

And then it was also time to meet Martina, a former colleague when I worked as a picture editor at the Neue Zürcher Zeitung in Zurich, Switzerland. Wow, that was a long time ago, I must say. We actually left the newspaper at the same day, so we shared our aperitif to say goodbye to our workmates.

Of course I had to visit Martina and her husband Barnaby in Brooklyn, where they live for several years now. As I am not only a wedding, but also a baby photographer, I absolutely had to meet Camilla, their 4 month old baby.

When I travel I really like to travel light as I walk around the whole day to explore a city. So my favorite travel cam is the iPhone (3G at that time) and my “beast” (the Canon 5D Mark II) normally has to stay in the hotel room.

As I thought it would be a great thing to give the proud parents some “real” photographs of Camilla, I returned the next day with my roller case, “fully loaded”. It was worth it! And Martina, thanks for the Brooklyn tour, I really enjoyed it! I hope to be back in NYC soon!

Felix & Niklaus (Baby Session)

Another baby session I photographed recently was of Felix and Niklaus. While Felix was not too much convinced of what the photographer was doing, Niklaus had a bit more fun his images taken :-) Thanks for posing (more or less ;-) for me, Felix and Niklaus!

Introducing: Lea

If you like to photograph babies you have to accustom to their time schedule. If they are in a good mood early in the morning, you have to get up early to take the best shots. If they want to sleep, you wait. If they want to eat, you wait. The good thing: There is no stress. You take what you get. You just have to be flexible and see what happens.

Today I was very lucky. Not only because I could photograph this baby session in my city, but especially because Lea was such a great model! Exploring everything new (the photographer and his camera) with her beautiful, big eyes. Being already 6 months old she was quite active. Moving a lot, turning from one side to the other. A challenge for a photographer. But she did great and only did get tired after 2 hours of taking pictures! Wow, I guess at the end I was more exhausted than her :-)

Thanks for being my model, Lea, and congratulations to the happy parents. It was a pleasure to meet your family!

Fiorello (Baby)

After editing a lot of wedding images recently it’s baby time again :-)

When I got a phone call one day and Fiorello’s mum booked me to take the pictures of her future baby, it was still several weeks before the due date. Actually Fiorello was born on the exact day and I had the pleasure to photograph him two weeks later. He was really one of the sweetest babies I’ve ever photographed! Calm, patient, in a good mood and giving me a lot of time to take some great images of him. Congratulations to the proud parents!

Zsa Zsa Rules The World

The first child changes everything in the parents’ life. Now there is someone else taking the decisions. It’s not the parents’ decision anymore when they will go to bed at night or at what time they will get up in the morning. Suddenly the whole world looks very different and they will start to see it from another point of view. Zsa Zsa rules the world :-)

For the photographer invited to photograph a baby session it’s the same. Zsa Zsa wants to eat – you drink a coffee. Zsa Zsa wants to take a nap – you chat with the mum. There’s no hurry, there’s no pressure. It doesn’t help. You just wait. Zsa Zsa rules the world :-)
